Thank you so much for creating the website devoted to Jon. It’s helping my family a lot as we mourn his death.
I found this old picture in our family photo album. It reminds me of when I first met Jon. My family had driven from NC to Viroqua, WI for Judy and Jon’s wedding. I was just a little kid (maybe 8 years old) and quite shy around so many grown ups who I’d never seen before. There was a gathering at Elma and Tom’s home, where Judy introduced us to Jon. I remember him engaging us kids (my sister and two brothers) in such an open, calm and interesting manner. It seemed like we had known him forever, yet this was our first visit together. He would tell us little interesting facts mixed in with a joke now and then. He really had us captivated…and laughing a lot, too. It was just so incredible how he related to all of us, from age six to seventy-six, without having to adjust his style or intellectualism.
I’ve never met anyone else quite like Jon. He was such a special guy and I feel very fortunate to have known him. I will think of him often for the rest of my life…

What a wonderful photo! I’ve often wondered what Jon looked like when he was young. Thank you for sharing it.
Great photo and magnificent story.
At the other end of the age spectrum, my Dad was 86, when he first met Jon whom he really liked a lot. He expressed to me, “I feel like I have known him for a long time.”
Jon’s charismatic, captivating and larger than life personality was simply ageless and magnetic.
Thanks Steve, Thanks Elling, Thanks Jon, Thanks Dad – Bill
