Song from Terry Rielly
Another friendly giant has just left the bay.
Old fishers line up to give him a wave.
“Farewell Friendly Giant” How’s that sound in whale?
There are plenty of humpbacks, part of a John Lien tale.
Will they share the sorrow humans feel on this day?
As this wonderful human, now sails out the bay.
John, I see you now; your whiskers and grin.
Off on a new task. There’s a whale trapped again.
But this time is different. Not only she will go free.
Your soul is on the wind, with one hand in the sea.
Farewell wonderful man. You served Earth very well.
You’ll be with us forever, in the stories we’ll tell.
The whales of the ocean; we mortal women & men,
bid you farewell, until we meet again.
